2 Historia Festiwalu 1985 Roman Gutek, Dyskusyjny Klub Filmowy „Hybrydy” – I Warszawski Tydzień Filmowy Od 1991 dyrektorem festiwalu jest Stefan Laudyn Od 1995 organizatorem festiwalu jest Warszawska Fundacja Filmowa WMFF należy do CentEast (Stowarzyszenie Festiwali Filmowych Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej) od 2001W tym samym roku uzyskał też akredytację FIAPF (Międzynarodowa Federacja Zrzeszeń Producentów Filmowych)

3 Sections New Films New Directors International Competition of first and second feature films; Regional Competition for feature length films (fiction and documentary) from Central and Eastern Europe (main production country: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine). Documentary Features Competition; New Polish Films; Discoveries – visions of contemporary world; Free Spirit – films, which are independent, innovative, rebellious; Master’s Touch – new films by established filmmakers; national / regional panoramas; retrospectives / special presentations.

4 Criteria feature and documentary films of over 60 min. on 35 millimetres film tape with optical sound; films that had their first screening no more than eighteen months before the Festival; films that have not been presented during any motion picture event in Poland; films that have not been distributed, exhibited or broadcast in Poland; films presented in New Films New Directors International Competition must be 1st or 2nd feature films by the Director. The Director of the festival selects and invites the films participating in the Festival.

5 Language Versions and Subtitles
All films will be screened in their original languages with English subtitles. Polish Distributors must provide the prints of foreign films with Polish subtitles at their own expense. If the film does not have a Polish Distributor, the Festival Organisers will provide electronic subtitles (under the screen) in the Polish language at their own expense. Polish films presented at the WIFF must be subtitled in English at the expense of the Producer.

6 Transportation and Responsibility for Prints
The prints should reach the Festival Office in Warsaw (in accordance with Shipping Instructions) by September 25, 2006, at the latest. Polish Producers and Distributors deliver the prints to the Festival Office at their own expense. For films without Polish Distributor, the cost of prints' transportation, if not agreed otherwise, is covered by WIFF: to and from Poland, if the print is transported from and to the lending company (Producer/Sales Agent);  one way (to Poland only), if the print is transported along a chain of festivals. 7 Awards New Films New Directors International Competition of first and second feature films. The winner gets Grand Prix Nescafé and 5,000 Euro in cash, which goes to the Director(s) of the winning film. There can be only one winner of Grand Prix (no ex-aequo). The Jury also gives Best Script Award (2,000 Euro, which goes to the Scriptwriter(s)) and no more than two Special Mentions (1,000 Euro each, given to the Director(s)). Regional Competition: The winner gets Regional Competition Award and 4,000 Euro in cash, which goes to the Director. There can be only one winner of Regional Competition Award (no ex-aequo). Documentary Competition: The winner gets Documentary Competition Award and 3,000 Euro in cash, which goes to the Director. There can be only one winner of Documentary Competition Award (no ex-aequo). FIPRESCI Award: The FIPRESCI Jury will name the Best First European Feature Film from any section. The Audience Award: The audience votes for the best film from any section of the Festival. The winner gets the Audience Award (no cash). Total: Euro
